Working together to save our best friends
To so many of us, our dogs are part of our family. And like any family member, our pets often suffer from the same diseases that humans do, including cancer. Statistics show that one in three dogs will be stricken by this deadly disease. Once the diagnosis of cancer is made there are treatment options available to pet owners but the prognosis is often grim.
In 2008, my dog Checkers was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor near his spinal column. I was absolutely devastated to learn that no type of treatment would save his life and on April 4, 2009, I said goodbye to my constant companion. In the months following the diagnosis, I learned a lot about canine cancer and the progress that was ongoing in the research field. Paws For The Cause was organized as a non-profit corporation dedicated to funding for research projects to find a cure for canine cancer. Paws For The Cause has partnered with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Foundation and all contributions raised fund canine cancer research grants administered through such foundation.
Checkers was an incredible dog that touched the lives of many people and even though he lost his battle we can win the war. Each of our journeys with canine cancer are different, but together, we can help find a cure.
